ARBRES D’AILLEURS

Forêt Intérieure/Interior Forest est un projet artistique d’Alexandra Grant en collaboration avec l’écrivain parisienne Hélène Cixous. Il y a plusieurs années, Hélène Cixous donna à Alexandra Grant un de ses livres qui inspira cette dernière. L’œuvre examine l’histoire de Peter Ibbetson, personnage d’un roman de Georges du Maurier, qui a engendré l’adaptation cinématographique  du même nom avec Gary Cooper.

Hélène Cixous revisite l’histoire des deux enfants séparés par leur classe sociale et leur pays, mais qui sont réunis en tant qu’adultes dans une vie rêvée. Le rêve partagé prend souvent la forêt comme cadre.

Forêt Intérieure/Interieur Forest est une exposition visible dans deux villes – Los Angeles et Paris – et en deux parties : une installation sous forme de forêt et une illustration à grande échelle du livre Philippines d’Hélène Cixous.

L’installation Forêt Intérieure inclut des sculptures d’Alexandra Grant, comme les Arbres d’ailleurs.  Alexandra Grant a invité d’autres artistes à créer des arbres et un endroit de rêve partagé, comme Nathalie Harvey, Constance Ouvieu et des autres.

VISITING TREES

Forêt Intérieure/Interior Forest is a collaborative art project by Los Angeles artist Alexandra Grant with the Paris-based writer Hélène Cixous. Several years ago, Cixous gave Grant one of her books, “Philippines,” as a source for imagery. The text examines the story of “Peter Ibbetson,” a novel by Georges du Maurier, that was made into a Hollywood movie of the same name starring Gary Cooper.  Cixous’ text retells and reflects upon the narrative of two children who are then separated by class and country, and reunite as adults in their shared dream-life.  The shared dream often happens in a forest setting.

Forêt Intérieure/Interior Forest is an exhibition in two cities — Los Angeles and Paris — and in two parts: a forest installation and a large-scale illustration of the Cixous’ book “Philippines.”

The forest installation will include sculpture made by Grant as well as some Visiting trees or Arbres d’ailleurs.  Grant has invited several artists to create trees and a shared dream space.  In Los Angeles, these artists are: Frances Garreston, Channing Hansen, Bari Ziperstein, Annelie McKenzie and Tina Linville.
